As the CAO, Ruth is responsible for Operational and Compliance Risk and Controls, the Transformation work, Data and Regulatory Engagement across CCB. She joined the team in October 2023 from ICG where she was the global lead for Financial Crimes risk. This role spanned AML, Sanctions, Trade Sanctions and Anti-Bribery and Corruption frameworks across the various ICG businesses lines, driving a consistent and holistic approach across ICG to Financial Crimes risk, issues and controls.
Ruth has over 25 years experience in banking, and over 10 years in Financial Crimes. Prior to Citi she was the In Business Financial Crime lead for the Banking and Markets business and latterly, the Group Head of AML, where she was responsible for setting HSBC AML Policy and control framework. She has also held head of Financial Crime and AML roles in both first and second line in other major institutions, namely HSBC, Barclays and Schroders, and started her Fin Crime career as head of Investigations and UK Nominated Officer at Barclays.
Ruth is a lawyer by background and spent the first 15 years of her career as a Markets and structured credit lawyer, in private practice and in-house, spending a number of interesting years in the thick of the products which caused the financial crisis. She gained a BA degree in Law at Durham University.
Outside of work, Ruth is a jazz and blues singer, and enjoys a number of outdoor activities, including tennis, scuba diving, skiing, hiking and cold water swimming.
