
Prof. Dr. Zetzsche, LL.M., is Professor of Financial Law at the University of Luxembourg where he holds the ADA Chair in Financial Law (inclusive finance) since March 2016 and co-leads the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance’s House of Sustainable Governance & Markets as well as Luxembourg’s National Centre of Excellence in Research on Financial Technologies (“FT-NCER”).
Prof. Zetzsche is the author of more than 400 publications, including some globally leading articles and treatises on FinTech/RegTech, corporate governance, sustainable finance as well as collective and alternative investment law and regulation. His latest books include the book “FinTech: Finance, Technology, and Regulation”, Cambridge University Press (US) (with Professors Ross P Buckley and Douglas W Arner) as well as “The EU Law on Crypto-assets”, Cambridge University Press (UK) (with Dr Jannik Woxholth). He currently works on an article-by-article commentary on EU Sustainable Finance Regulation (CUP UK, 2027, with Professor Julia Sinnig) as well as a monograph on inclusive sustainable finance (Oxford University Press, 2026, with Professors Ross P Buckley and Douglas W Arner). Prof. Zetzsche is listed by SSRN as one of the global top 10 legal scholars measured by downloads in the last twelve months.
Prof. Zetzsche is a Director of the Society of Investment Law (Chicago, Illinois), a member of the consultative working group of ESMA’s Investment Management Standing Committee (IMSC), a member of the European Systemic Risk Board’s Working Group on Crypto-assets as well as the Financial Access Survey expert group of the International Monetary Fund. He also functions as independent director of financial institutions.
Prof. Zetzsche has held presentations and lectures at most leading universities around the world, e.g. Cambridge, Columbia, Harvard, LSE, National University of Singapore, Oxford, University of Chicago, University College London, University of Hong Kong, University of Paris I / Sorbonne, University of Zürich, UNSW Sydney, Yale University.
Prof. Zetzsche is a frequent advisor of regulators worldwide. He has advised and presented to, inter alia, the Australian Securities / Investment Committee, the Bank of International Settlement, the Financial Stability Board, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Securities & Market Authority (ESMA), the European Banking Authority, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, IOSCO, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and several governments in Europe and beyond. He regularly cooperates with development organizations and agencies across the globe, including ADA, the Alliance for Financial Inclusion, the Asian Development Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the German GIZ, the International Monetary Fund, the Toronto Centre, the United Nations, and the Worldbank, among others.
In February 2023, Professor Zetzsche made a case for financial inclusion in front of the United Nation as contribution to the UN’s Social Commission and presented on sustainable finance regulation at the COP27, 28, 29 and 30.
